HISTORY OF SAMA
The Association of Mapua Alumni (Singapore), popularly known to the Filipino community in Singapore as SAMA, was established in the last quarter of 2001 by a group of Mapua Alumni, headed by the founding president, Mr. Art Pacheco. An affiliated member of the National Association of the Mapua Alumni, SAMA aims to:
• unify the alumni of Mapua Institute of Technology who are working or residing in Singapore
• build closer ties, friendship and camaraderie among its members
• undertake any technological, social, charitable and recreational activities beneficial to the members and public,
• diseminate innovative technological trends and practices
Almost a year later, on the 3rd of August 2002, the organization successfully registered at the Registry of Societies making its presence officially recognized by the Island State and enabling the group to be bold in promoting its objectives anytime and anywhere in Singapore.
Currently there are more than 100 registered members comprising a holistic blend of different engineering disciplines offered by Mapua, all of which are wearing their laurels in different posts from IT, engineering to the management, regional planning to project comptrollership levels and many other fields where Mapuans serve with distinctions.
Driven by passion to sports, SAMA regularly meets on Saturdays to compete against each other for the SAMA Sabado Night Bowling Tournament. The said tournament is now on its 5th year since establishment in 2005. SAMA also represents Basketball and Volleyball teams to other organizations as another form of building stronger ties amongst other organizations.
Since its inception, SAMA has been an active donor to various institutions such as Gawad Kalinga, Bantay Bata, the PGH pediatric ward and typhoon victims. Working hand in hand with the Philippine embassy, SAMA is indeed instrumental in uplifting the morale of every Filipino not only in Singapore but also to the Philippines.
